Music offers courses in a wide range of areas: classical western art music, contemporary rock music, world music and cultural studies, musicology, composition and song writing, music technology, the music industry, performance in a rock band or as a classical singer, violinist, cellist, pianist and selected other instruments (please inquire).
 
This subject comprises the Bachelor of Music (MusB) and a major in Music for the Bachelor of Arts (BA). From 2010, you can major in Classical Music, Classical Music Performance, Popular Music, Contemporary Music Performance, World Music, Composition, and Music Studies.
 

Did you know?

The Department of Music offers various performing ensembles including the Marama Chamber Orchestra, Indonesian Gamelan, renaissance instrument music, African drumming groups. An extensive Department public concert series is offered free to music students.
 

Career opportunities

Graduates may become performers, teachers or composers. Some work in the media or the music industry. There are many other possibilities too.
