Forensic Analytical Science

Forensic Analytical Science

Analytical science is increasingly being applied forensically in business; e.g. for compliance with legislation, marketing and the protection of products and brands from fraud.

This major will focus on the vital analytical techniques from Forensic Biology (including DNA) and Forensic Chemistry (spectrosopy, traceability).

The science behind these areas can also be applied to criminal forensic work.

This major is available for the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAppSc).

Did you know?

New Zealand produce is frequently ripped-off in foreign markets where unscrupulous suppliers from other countries substitute their inferior produce and label it as from New Zealand. They do this to gain the greater market share and price premium commanded by the genuine New Zealand article.

Modern analytical techniques are capable of determining the origins of food products, in some case to within a kilometre of where they grew.

New Zealand food exporters are increasingly making use of such techniques to protect their markets and reputation.
