European Studies covers the remarkable social, economic, political and cultural transformations that have taken place over several centuries and have now, among other changes occurring in Europe, resulted in European integration and the building of the European Union.
 
This major is available for the Bachelor of Arts (BA).
 

Did you know?

Because European Studies is focussed on European integration, students will gain substantive knowledge of critical aspects of contemporary Europe along with language training in Spanish, German and French.
 
You'll explore the issues emerging for the 340 million citizens of the new Europe.
 

Career opportunities

The aim of the programme is to provide students with a clear pathway to postgraduate training opportunities and careers in law, commerce, arts and the diplomatic service.
 
It also provides a good grounding for students who wish to pursue postgraduate study opportunities at the National Centre for Research on Europe (NCRE) at the University of Canterbury.
