Design Studies

Please note: From Semester 2 2010, no new students will be accepted for the Design Studies major. It will still be available as a minor.

Design is a process through which we identify challenges, articulate solutions, visualise possible scenarios and shape the world around us.

Design Studies explores the theory, technology, politics, fashion, communications and consumerism that make design such a significant activity. It's relevant to all areas, whether in the sciences or the humanities, technology or business.

This major is available for the Bachelors of Arts (BA) and Consumer & Applied Sciences (BCapSc) respectively.

Did you know?

It's difficult to overestimate the importance of design as everything is, in some sense, designed.

Design exists as the central feature of culture and everyday life - a provocative language and enabling framework which catalyses international trade, punctuates economic development and articulates individual, community and national identities.

Career opportunties

Our graduates find jobs in many areas of the economy, including design practice, marketing and mult-media and creative industries, both within NZ and overseas.
